The West Ohio Conference chose South Webster Christ UMC (Shawnee Valley) as the overall smaller congregation vital church. They received the WO-UMRA William B. Murray Vital Town and Country Church Award and $1,000 to use for a mission/outreach project of their choice. Presentation of the award was made at Annual Conference by Bishop Palmer.    Recently, the Appalachian Ministry Network met and approved grants totaling $10,000 for Hunger and Poverty projects within the Appalachian region. For the first time ever, a church, in fact WALNUT STREET CHURCH, was the recipient of the group Red Cross Heroes Award. The award was presented Friday, Feb. 28 , 2014, at the Red Cross Heroes Banquet. The award specifically mentioned their South End ministry, including their twice-monthly soup kitchen, their Snack and Learn program, Garden Ministry, Christmas outreach and parties, Bible studies, Easter Egg Hunts, and the list goes on and on.
