Appalachian Ministry Network

The United Methodist Appalachian Ministry Network (UMAMN) held its fall meeting at the Holston Conference Center in Alcoa, Tennessee on September 11 - 12, 2014.  Twenty UMAMN members came together in Alcoa from across the Appalachian region, which extends from New York to Mississippi.West Ohio was well-represented at the meeting by Rev. Joy French, Zanesville, Ms. Carlene Triplett, Coolville, Rev. Roger Grace, Grove City, and Rev. Charles Jack, a member of West Ohio who is serving in the Red Bird Missionary Conference. Network members  adopted a new action plan that will guide the work of UMAMN over the next year. UMAMN’s Advocacy Committee established children’s issues and water quality as the two primary focus areas for Appalachian advocacy work, and UMAMN approved six Hunger & Poverty grant applications for a total of $7,500. Grants are awarded to ministries working to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in Appalachian communities.  The UMAMN spring meeting will be held at Antiochian Village in Bolivar, Pennsylvania on April 23 - 24, 2015.
